Fox News finally notices the Diebold voting machine scandal

Now that the Democratic Party seems poised to retake the House, Fox News gets concerned about the voting machines. Where were they in 2002 and 2004, when the polls were nearly dead-even and every single Diebold "error" miraculously ended up favoring the Republican Party?

...and, a 10 minute video summarizing the Princeton study (which is one of many studies & tests showing how our votes are being stolen):

I wonder: If Democrats retake Congress, do you think the Republicans will suddenly get all concerned about the voting machine issue and even suggest that Democrats hacked the machines?

That's a rhetorical question.

The Republicans will probably work on improving their party and their message rather than blaming voting machines.

"The Republicans will probably work on improving their party and their message rather than blaming voting machines."

Explain how all the mistakes in Ohio subtracted votes from Kerry and added votes to Bush.

"re question: "where was fox news" - went to search.foxnews.com and found a bunch of reports, including this one:
This is a partial transcript of "Special Report With Brit Hume," Nov. 11, 2004, that has been edited for clarity."

I looked it up too, and Fox did report on this stuff. The difference then and now, is that they used to MOCK the people who complained about the voting machines. The above clip makes it look like they're finally taking it seriously.

But it's not just Fox, the rest of the Media seems to finally be taking it seriously. I think it's because of all the recent tests showing how easy it is to "flip" the votes. One test showed you can even do it wirelessly with a PDA and leave no trace.

To "anonymous," you can bet Republicans would investigate the voting machines if they lost. Republicans used to whine about Florida and about the Florida Supreme Court getting involved in that election, but THEY were the ones to take it to the Supreme Court, and THEY were the ones to sue when they lost the Governor's race in Washington.

"LOLOLOLOL! Zing!"

"Zing?" What are you talking about? For something to be a "zing," it has to be true. As has been pointed out already, when the GOP lost here in Washington State, did they "refine their message?" No, they SUED. I read an article months ago about how the GOP was planning on suing over voting machine malfuntions in the eventuality that they would lose the House this November. Unfortunately I didn't save the article, and I'm having a devil of a time finding it through Google. All the search phrases I think of are too common and it turns up a million articles. Anyone know what I'm talking about? If so please post a link.

Lastly, Paul, it's disgusting that people such as yourself and "anonymous" take the very real problem of hacked voting machines so lightly. I'm 100% sure you wouldn't if Diebold had promised to deliver Ohio's electoral votes to John Kerry, and then every "error" on election day gave Kerry extra votes. But it's all just a game to people like you, and anything goes as long as it helps "your team" hold onto power.

Well here we go again!

Everything's great as long as the "Right" comes out on top, but if it's a level playing field, then watch out! Let the shriek-fest begin!

I'm from Washington State too (just outside Seattle) and to top it off I have been working for the King County Elections Department for going on 16 years now. (In short, I know the actual truth about the election problems, not what the "Far and Balanced" gop want to tell their sheep-like followers!)

Oh, and if "fixing" a political party means "hand it over to the Chistian Right and call everyone else an anti-American sinner" then I'm proud to say I hope the Democrats stay very, VERY broken!!

As much as I would love to go off about the double standards here, I'm not gonna bother.

As the saying goes, "Never try and teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time, and it annoys the pig."

Now change the word PIG to SHEEP and the word SING to THINK FOR IT'S SELF, and it's a great little reminder that- when it come to religous driven politics- you had best just save your breath if you dare to disagree!

"If you want to get worried, think about Diebold - not just voting machines, but the other areas they have software/hardware - ATMs, currency markets, security systems. "

The voting machines are far more urgent a matter. Because when you can't trust the vote counting, we have no democracy. As long as the corporatist party keeps getting elected, Diebold won't have any oversight in those other areas you mention. Corporations get free reign.

Although bringing up ATM's brings up a good point: Diebold is lying if they say providing a paper trail isn't possible. I get a paper trail every time I use one of their ATM machines (even the portable one at the corner 7-11).

""Zing" can refer to a simple witticism. No truth content necessary. "Anonymous" comments ran together nicely."

At the risk of belaboring the point, doesn't a "witticism" imply "wit," which is a "keen perception?" How can something untrue be a keen perception?

In any case, I agree, the voting machines are a case of "be careful what you wish for." One case of hanging chads caused us to leap before we looked to adopt untried technology. Technology that's entirely in the hands of one party (the Republicans); and then we get surprised that they end up using their own technology to steal the elections. This is probably the least surprising surprise in the history of surprises.

It's also a catch-22. To get to the bottom of the voting machine fraud would take Congressional action, but the voting machines are capable of picking their own Congress.
