Obama on Race in America

This speech is about far more than the Reverend Wright controversy. If I were a gambler, I'd bet this'll be shown in social studies and history classes for the next 50 years.

I'd love to believe we've turned a corner. On the other hand, I'm sure someone said that when they ratified the Fourteenth Amendment.
Obama's speech does open the door for both sides to express their frustration. My experience has been that students often don't like to talk about what they feel strongly about. However, I'm going to try to find an excuse to give it a try. If only I could bring in an interesting guest speaker like a famous cartoonist...

Hi, Ken. There was a successful study done where the teacher had the students wear color tags on their clothing and they had to "be" that color for a whole week and treat each other as they really would a person of that color. That really sparked interest. Another way is for you to break the larger group into small discussion groups by having them count off "1,2,1,2,1,2" and then you tell them all the 1's are, for example, Black. All the 2's are, say, white. They must be given a scenario, which you, of course, make up. Then, they have to have a reporter for each group who will report back after a given time. Just saying, "let's talk about it" doesn't cut it.

Hey thanks for the great blog, I love this stuff. I don’t usually do much for Earth Day but with everyone going green these days, I thought I’d try to do my part.

I am trying to find easy, simple things I can do to help stop global warming (I don’t plan on buying a hybrid). Has anyone seen that EarthLab.com is promoting their Earth Day (month) challenge, with the goal to get 1 million people to take their carbon footprint test in April?... I took the test, it was easy and only took me about 2 minutes and I am planning on lowering my score with some of their tips.

I am looking for more easy fun stuff to do. If you know of any other sites worth my time let me know.

I could not believe some of the posts on ABC.com. They are filled with Hillary followers and also Republicans saying nearly the same things about Obama. They are now combining the attacks on him by (Rev. Wright speech) and by his saying that some of the smaller cities in rural towns have people in them who are bitter against government. Hillary inflamed that statement further by implying SHE IS NOT FOR GUN CONTROL and Obama is. She said she had lots of guns WHEN SHE WAS A CHILD and her father took her out back in the "wilderness" to HUNT. She was an AVID hunter. Then, as she sat in a pub and swagged down liquor like a sailor, she "connected" with the REGULAR folks who are not with the "elite" crowd. She makes me SOOOO angry, and the people who FALL for that junk talk make me EQUALLY angry

In fact, I'd like to say WORSE things about those kind of people. Can you guess what? Uh huh,, that's right.

Well, I'm not angry any more. I have gone through the grief stages, and I'm at the point of acceptance. It is what it is and it will be what it will be.
